 OCHA Burundi Minimize

The OCHA Burundi office was established in 1998 when it took over from the Department of Humanitarian Affairs which had been in the country since 1995. OCHA Burundi ensures the coordination of emergency relief activities for the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) in Burundi which is headed by the Humanitarian Coordinator.

In close collaboration with UN agencies, international and national NGOs, donors and relevant government counterparts, main areas of activity for OCHA Burundi are preparedness, early recovery, information management and protection. It stipulates the coordination mechanisms whereby an emphasis is put on regular coordination meetings per sector and province.

OCHA in 2009 Annual Plan and Budget Minimize

Foreword

I write at a worrying time for OCHA and the humanitarian community as a whole. Not only do the scale and depth of humanitarian needs already seem greater than ever, but we also face the quasi-certainty that the effects of the global financial crisis will in the end fall disproportionately on the most vulnerable, and increase needs still further. Add to this the increasing effects of climate change, the continuing impact of the food security crisis, and the sad reality that some of our most difficult complex emergencies are deteriorating, and the prospects are indeed discouraging...."
