 OCHA in oPt Minimize

The OCHA office in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) was established in late 2000. The office was established in response to the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the West Bank and Gaza caused by military incursions and closures - mobility restrictions imposed on the Palestinian civilians, local and international service providers.

OCHA-oPt aims to improve the humanitarian situation by enhancing coordination between agencies to ensure effective distribution of humanitarian assistance. It also enhances coordination and decision making through its dissemination of humanitarian information and analysis of facts.

Inter-Agency Coordination
OCHA-oPt serves as the guardian for the CAP UN appeals process. It is also a resource for decision-makers and operational organisations to assist the humanitarian response in the community.

Humanitarian Information, Advocacy and Policy support
OCHA-oPt provides maps and analysis through a range of services and products designed to inform policy makers and to help aid organisations in their operational decisions. OCHA-oPt disseminates its information to both local and international actors and works with them to raise awareness of the humanitarian situation and measures needed to alleviate suffering.

Area Field Coordination
OCHA-oPt has five field offices located in Gaza, Hebron, Ramallah, Jerusalem and Nablus, that coordinate humanitarian response with local government and municipalities. They also provide humanitarian information collected at the community level.
